Lisa’s Healthy Hair Care Challenge

Hey Twisties,

I would like to introduce you to my good friend Lisa. Lisa first attempted to go natural was a three-month stretch back in 1998. I wish in 1998 the thought had crossed my mind to lay off the creamy crack, but I digress. In 2003 she made a second attempt but during this period she would heat straighten her hair every two weeks, which cause irreversible heat damage and limp curls. Then about three years ago Lisa cut off the heat damage and relaxed, but she wasn’t satisfied with her relaxed tresses either and this lasted six months. She now has been natural for about two years, and as of lately has experienced some extreme breakage and some heat damage at the crown and very back of her hair. She typically heat straightens her hair no more than four times a year and her last session was about a two months ago. Her typical hair care regiem would consist of washing the hair the first week of the month with Trader Joe’s Tea Tree shampoo and deep condish with a mixture of various conditioners. She uses Jane Carter’s leave-in followed by Beautiful Curls leave-in. Then Lisa would lightly apply some coconut oil to her ends. Twist her hair with Beautiful Curl Creme Curl Acitvator. She would remoisturize with water and leave-in condish mix every night. For the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of the month, Lisa co-washes with VO5 conditioner, condish with Giovanni and continues with the above mention products and styling.

I love to problem solve and I really dig a challenge, so I’ve asked and Lisa has graciously let me feature her healthy hair care challenge on my blog.  This is Pt. 1 of a four-month series. I will pose periodic updates on her hair, her lifestyle and how she’s feeling overall about the entire process. We will document which products she’s using, how she’s using them and if there are any changes made in the regime; as well as, photos of her before, during and after results.

Please leave messages of encouragement and any tips and tricks to help her achieve her healthy hair goals.
