Hey Twisties,
If you guys read my post titled Travel Yearnings then you’ll know that I’ve been itching for a proper vacation for a while now, and couldn’t wait til August for my little European excursion, but I am excited to say that I’ll be back to the Dominican Republic in just 10 days!!!! I spent my birthday there about a year and a half ago and just loved it. Me and one of my great friends are heading for a nice long getaway weekend. Nothing but surf, sun, food & rum (mamajuana) will be going on (prob in that order too J).
Thinking about it, this will be my first “real” vacation with natural hair. Back in September I was in Toronto but there was no swimming, chlorine and salt water to deal with, so messing with my hair was easy breezy. I typically don’t use many products and plan on using even less while in DR.
This is my plan of action:
I will bring a bottle of Suave Naturals for co-washing every night to remove as much salt and chlorine as possible. A leave in conditioner to put in for the day. The only leave-in that I use in Giovanni’s Direct Leave-In, but I will use a less expensive one for this trip. Since I’ll be frolicking in the water all day rather not burn through the good stuff. I will bring a hair cream, most likely Shea Moisture’s Moisture Milk and some oil. A brush, comb and some hair ties will be the extent for my hair care needs. I wear my hair in a curly fro every day which will turn to a bushy fro as the day progresses, but who cares right? I’m on vaca! For trips away from the resort I will defer to my trusted pony puff. The LAST thing that I want to do is spend hours on my hair or even more then 5 minutes on it. My girlfriend is a get and up shake that straight blond mane of hers and is ready to go, so I refuese to be the one holding up the party messing in my hair lol. I’m not anticipating any issues with my tresses in Punta Cana, in fact I’ll be anticipating an improvement in its condition. I’ve been once before and at that time I was in my transition phase, but noticed an immediate difference the humidity in the air react reacted with my hair. As a full blown natural now I guessing that my ringlets will full, soft and moisturized.
When I get back stateside I plan on shampooing my hair with a sulfate shampoo, apply the Aphogee Two-Step Protein Treatment, DC and style my hair for the week.
So excited!!!
