“How Did You Get Your Hair Like That?”

Hey Twisties,

I know that is a question that many of us get. Enjoying the spring like absolutely gorgeous weather yesterday I met up with some friends. For some drinks and with all the wonderful positive comments that I receive, I always get “how did you get your hair like that?” question. No matter how many times that I’ve been asked I still get taken by surprised as I ponder how to answer

The other night sitting at a restaurant with some friends chatting it up with random topics, when the subject switched to my hair. One woman said to me ”you can wear my hair like that because you have that nice type of hair”. Now, I have thick, kinky curly afro textured 4a hair. My kinky hair is the majority when it comes to African descendent hair textures. Which in the past and even now hasn’t been classified under the “good hair” category so that statement gave me a little chuckle. And when she asked how I got my hair like this, just told her I condition really well and use flax gel to help maintain the curls. And I like to let people know that my hair is good because I treat it well, and you can have good hair too.

So as the night progressed met up with another group of friends where again the conversation switched to my hair. One woman in particular was very interested on how I got my hair like that (twice in a span of hours lol) This one in particular is a natural, but has a love for the heat which damaged the ends of tresses changing them straight. I let her know that to get your hair on the right track, you’ve gotta stay away from the heat!

The next stop in the night was to the Apple store to attend the Dukes Inspire Kings a Visual Branding Journey event. Where two local Philadelphia bloggers and fashion designers were give a presentation/seminar on their brand building and future plans for their respective companies. Kings Rule Together founder Curran J. Swint was a speaker at the event and during the Q&A session a woman asked this… “I want to know, how do you get your hair to stand at 90°?” Can you say side eyes all across the room! wow that was the third time that I heard that question that night!

Maybe I should start brainstorming some clever answers in response to said question; such as, ‘well what I do is sleep with my head hanging off the bed, so at night gravity can stretch them into this fab afro in front of you but you gotta lay like that for 8hrs’. Or maybe I can say ‘I get my hair like this my like this by first dunking my head in sink full of water and the jump up and down til dry” Haha I think I could pull if off if I maintained my composure and poker face.

Stay Beautifully,

Twisted
